There goes the security: Blackberries being targeted by bank-detail stealing trojan

Securelist reports reports that a new trojan has popped up Blackberry phones designed to steal the authentication message sent  by banks via SMS for two factor authentication.

The trojan is designed to forward all text messages to numbers in Spain, Italy and Germany, and also has a contacts a Command and Control server at the same numbers.

The so-called Zitmo trojan is a variant of malware that already exists for Android and is targeting users from various European countries including Spain, Poland, Germany.

Securelist found the trojan in three .cod files and one .jar and they note that it seems part of a new wave of attacks on smartphones in Europe.

There are precious few reasons to still use a Blackberry phone, with security being one of the few left.  With the OS now under attack by malware writers there is now one less reason for its existence.
