As we mentioned in passing yesterday, there is a controversy raging on XDA-Dev at the moment as to whether the European HTC HD2 in fact does have 576 MB RAM rather than the 448 MB HTC says it does. A leak of the T-Mobile ROM installed on the HTC HD2 appears to “unlock” the extra 128 MB.

Of course many people have tried to prove that this was not just an artefact of installing the wrong ROM on the device, and with some success.   While the controversy is not settled yet, soon many more people will be involved, as XDA’s ROM chefs are releasing ROM’s with the 576 MB ROM hack cooked in.

Do our readers think HTC secretly shipped devices with 128 MB less RAM available than actually in the device?  Let us know below.
