If anyone asked if any Windows Phones supported the Russian GLONASS GPS Navigation system I would have said no way, but it seems Samsung has all kinds of surprises up its sleeve.

Samsung has just released a High Fidelity Position app which not only adds GLONASS support, but also uses sensors like the accelerometer and compass for enhance GPS accuracy and sensitive.

GLONASS, an alternate GPS system created by the USSR,  was previously only reserved for specialist dedicated devices, but since 2010 has found a presence in most mobile chipsets.

The app uniquely integrates directly with Windows Phone 7 settings, providing another potential route for OEMs to enhance their phones significantly without having to push a full update.

The app is free and can be found n Marketplace here.
