The Forza series is no stranger to dosing out in-game bonuses for players outside of doing standard races, but it appears that Forza Horizon 4 is set to do things a little differently. According to a report from Ars Technica, a small tidbit of information that got lost in the events surrounding E3 indicates that players will receive rewards for streaming Forza Horizon 4 on Mixer.
Playground Games art director Benjamin Penrose was describing upcoming features in Forza Horizon 4, and when he got to the point where he discussed its in-game currency and progression, he said that players can “progress in the game just by painting, or tuning, or streaming your gameplay on Mixer.”
The last part of the sentence sticks out as it’s not a feature you generally see in video games today. In fact, it’s not really a feature you see at all. While some video games do support Mixer or Twitch integration in some way, the way Forza Horizon 4 will do it seems entirely new. If successful (and if the system works how we think it will) Forza Horizon 4 detecting when you’re streaming via Mixer and then dishing out some bonuses and boosting progression could be the start of a trend.
It’s unclear if this same feature will extend to those streaming the game on Twitch as Penrose did not elaborate, nor did he clarify what these bonuses will entail or just how much “progress” can be earned by doing this.
We’ve contacted Playground Games regarding this and will update when we receive a response.
