While the owners of high-end Lumia devices like Lumia 920, Lumia 820 and Lumia 1020 are expecting Bluetooth 4.0 LE support on their devices via GDR3/Nokia firmware updates in the future, Nokia Australia has got some other story. In response to a user query, Nokia Australia tweeted that Bluetooth 4.0 LE support is not coming to Nokia Lumia 920, Lumia 820 and Lumia 1020 devices. Later on, they even tweeted that it won’t be coming to high-end Lumias due to hardware limitations.
While we are not so sure about Nokia Australia’s information, this is in line with the leaked Nokia’s presentation in Hong Kong. The slide stated that Bluetooth 4.0 LE will be coming to Nokia Lumia 520, Lumia 620 and Lumia 720 and didn’t mention about high-end Lumias. The low energy Bluetooth standard is used to communicate with accessories such as heart rate monitors, fitness monitors like the Fitbit, and temperature sensors. In fact, Nokia’s upcoming accessory tag Treasure Tag will also use Bluetooth LE to communicate with the device.
