A new Xbox exclusive is reportedly in the work. This time, the rumor came from Danish video game developer IO Interactive.

New information has surfaced during the ongoing FTC v. Microsoft trial regarding the Activision-Blizzard acquisition. As evidence was presented, a document came to light that provided insight into Xbox’s potential acquisition targets, with a notable mention of the renowned developer responsible for the Hitman series.

The document, listing “expected and previously shipped games,” included a reference to a project called “Project Dragon” attributed to IOI. This intriguing venture was described as an RPG shooter intended for both PC and Xbox Series X and S platforms.

Furthermore, the document revealed that Project Dragon falls under the purview of Xbox Game Studios, denoted as XGS Publishing, although specific details about the rumored new Xbox exclusive remain scarce.

The rumor started a little over two years ago when IO Interactive reportedly started working on an exclusive, triple-A fantasy RPG project, with the green console.

In recent years, Xbox has faced challenges in keeping up with Sony’s PlayStation when it comes to exclusive titles. Sony has managed to secure a strong lineup of exclusive games, capturing the attention of gamers worldwide. These exclusive titles, such as “The Last of Us,” “God of War,” and “Spider-Man,” have garnered critical acclaim and a dedicated fan base.

In contrast, Xbox has struggled to match the same level of exclusive content. While Xbox does have notable franchises like “Halo” and “Forza,” the quantity and diversity of exclusive titles have not been as robust as Sony’s offerings.

Speaking of Xbox exclusives, Redmond officials are in the process of preparing for the highly anticipated launch of Starfield, which is scheduled to hit store shelves in September 2023.
