WPArea reports that WhatsApp accidentally revealed a new feature coming to their Windows Phone app.

The request to help translate the app to German revealed that WhatsApp plans to add a backup feature for chats to Windows Phone, a feature already present on their Android and iOS apps.

On iOS it saves to the cloud, while on Android it saves to the local file system.  Presumably on Windows Phone the best location would be SkyDrive, something we hope WhatSApp will offer.

The text strings to be translated are:

  • Last backup {0}
  • We found a backup of your chat history. We found a backup of your chat history. Would you like to restore it? Would you like to restore it?
  • Tap to back up Tap to back up
  • Backup Backup

Unfortunately there is no time scale for the roll-out of the new feature, but it is nice to see the app slowly gaining parity with the other platforms feature-wise.
