We posted yesterday on a new Microsoft patent from November 2018 (published 23rd May) which spoke of securing a Type Cover more solidly using magnets.

The good folks at Hot Hardware, however, noticed a detail we missed – that the design also appeared to be missing a Surface Connector.

In its place is the long-overdue USB-C port, complemented by the older USB-A and Display Port slots.

A USB-C port is about 2 generations overdue, with Panos Panay previously saying adding a USB-C port would mean the removal of the full-sized USB-A port.

“I’m not taking that away,” Panay said.

The patent suggests Microsoft appears to have resolved that thorny issue.
