Ahead of the official announcement at MWC 2019, images of upcoming HoloLens v2 got leaked now. As you can see from the images included in the post, HoloLens will remain standalone computing unit unlike Magic Leap’s mixed reality solution. Also, it seems that Microsoft has reduced the overall footprint of the device on the front. To balance the weight on the front, it looks like Microsoft has packed some battery on the back of the device.

HoloLens 2 is expected to have an improved Holographic Processing Unit with more AI capabilities, and an improved Kinect-like depth camera. Microsoft is reportedly bringing development of the lenses internally to achieve this at a reasonable cost. HoloLens 2 will be powered by the recently announced Qualcomm Snapdragon XR1 processor or the Snapdragon 850 mobile platform, which was announced in June last year.

Microsoft’s live stream will start at 6:00 p.m. CET/9:00 a.m. PT today and you can watch it here.
