More than Office – Microsoft leaks new, more colourful look for Windows 10

Today Microsoft announced a new look to the icons for the Office 365 apps, but in the process, the company also appeared to have leaked some updates to the look of the built-in Windows 10 apps.

Taken from the explanatory video for the Office icons, which Microsoft said focussed more on content and “resonated over generations”, the screenshot above shows changes to the Photos icon for Windows 10.

See the older icon below which is more monochrome and which features a square frame than rounded filled in space.

Changes can also be seen in the new File Explorer icons which gets rid of the presumably metal holder.

We can also see changes to the News, Calculator and Calendar icons, which in many ways herald a partial return to skeuomorphism.
