Microsoft's new Surface Pen won't be available in different colors until later this Summer

Microsoft’s new Surface Pen launched alongside the new Surface Pro and Surface Laptop last month. The new Surface Pen includes 4096 pressure points, and it includes tilt-detection support, too. Just like the new Surface Pro, Microsoft introduced the new Surface Pen in a couple of different colors: Cobalt Blue, Burgundy, Black, and Platinum. Microsoft started selling the Platinum variant of the new Surface Pen in June, but the other variants aren’t available as of yet.

Now, if you’re looking to get the new Surface Pen in a different color other than Platinum, you’ll have to wait a little longer. Microsoft confirmed to Thurrott that the new Surface Pen won’t be available in different colors until later this Summer, but there isn’t any exact release date available at the moment.

Redmond delaying the Surface Pen’s colored variants isn’t a surprise. The company is only selling the new Surface Pen in the United States at the moment, although it is available for pre-order in other countries. The company is yet to launch colored variants of the Surface Laptop outside of the United States, but customers who pre-order now can get it delivered late next month which is quite far away. Even in the United States, some of the colored variants of Microsoft’s new Surface Laptop are out of stock at the moment. It isn’t clear whether Microsoft is having any manufacturing-related issues with the new Surface Pen, but it is possible the demand for the new Surface Pen simply exceeded Microsoft’s expectations.
