There were reports floating around the internet few months back that Xbox vNext will require Internet connection to work. This news created lots of discussion and Microsoft obviously didn’t comment on it since it is about their future product which is yet to be revealed. Today, Ars Technica reported about an internal email from Microsoft which explained the internet connection required for Xbox vNext. Xbox vNext does not require internet connection for scenarios such as watching a Blu-ray movie or playing a single player game or watching a Live TV via Xbox UI.
“Durango [the codename for the next Xbox] is designed to deliver the future of entertainment while engineered to be tolerant of today’s Internet.” It continues, “There are a number of scenarios that our users expect to work without an Internet connection, and those should ‘just work’ regardless of their current connection status. Those include, but are not limited to: playing a Blu-ray disc, watching live TV, and yes playing a single player game.”
I think this news should give a break for people who have been raising their voices about this feature.
