Microsoft Research is always known for demoing interesting projects. We saw lots of them last week at their TechFest conference and here is one another project.

An app called Bing Now could give users a way to find the current vibe of a bar or restaurant before they book a table using a web search. It records 4-5 seconds of audio in a place and sends it to cloud for processing where it is classified. For example, a person who wants to have a silent lunch could search for a list of local restaurants with low chatter levels. You can imagine other similar kind of scenarios. And as usual, Microsoft is not revealing whether this technology will make into consumer hands as it is a research project.
