Microsoft Teams Rooms Cortana

In June, Microsoft announced that it will kill Cortana app on Windows starting August 2023. Last month, Microsoft started disabling the functionality of Cortana app on Windows. Now, Microsoft has confirmed that support for Cortana in Teams mobile, Microsoft Teams display, and Microsoft Teams Rooms will end in the fall of 2023. Cortana voice assistance in Outlook mobile and Microsoft 365 mobile will also end in the fall of 2023. However, the Play My Emails feature will continue to work on Outlook mobile.

Cortana in the Teams mobile app, on Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows, and on Microsoft Teams display devices allowed users to perform communication and meeting-related tasks using voice. For example, users were able to say things like such as “call Megan” or “send a message to my next meeting”. Users were able to join meetings by saying “join my next meeting” and use voice assistance to share files, check their calendar, and more.

On September 15, 2023, Microsoft started deprecation of Cortana push-to-talk capability and wake word detection, on Teams Rooms devices and Teams Displays. Once Cortana is deprecated, users can complete the above tasks manually via the console or touch screen interface.
