Microsoft’s goal with Universal Windows Platform apps (also known as UWP apps) was to have the same apps running on multiple platforms with (mostly) the same code. While originally aimed at Windows 10, Windows 10 Mobile, and the Surface Hub, this has since expanded to the Xbox One. We’ve seen multiple UWP apps end up on the Xbox One lately, with many of these being Microsoft’s own Windows 10 apps. Microsoft’s bringing yet another one over to the platform, and this one is the Microsoft Photos app.
As spotted by /u/guilherme07 on the Xbox One Subreddit, the Photos app has shown up in the store. While it is available to download, you’ll only see a “coming soon” screen when you open it up, which was spotted by /u/HyperG16.
The Windows Maps app also has appeared in a similar fashion, and it’s only a matter of time until both of them become fully available. With Microsoft Groove recently gaining a UWP app on the Xbox, one would assume that the wait won’t be too much longer.
You can read the description for Microsoft Photos, taken from the store, below.
The best place to enjoy, organize, edit, and share all your digital memories. It brings together photos and videos from all your devices, enhances them to make great photos even better, and organizes them into beautiful albums for you.
