Key notes

  • SAP is ending IDM support. Migrate to Microsoft Entra ID for a smooth transition.
  • Entra ID offers a unified experience, advanced security, and seamless SAP integration.

Microsoft and SAP, the leader in enterprise application software, announced a collaboration to provide a seamless migration path for SAP customers transitioning from SAP Identity Management (SAP IDM) to Microsoft Entra ID.

SAP recently confirmed the end of maintenance for their IDM solution by 2027, with extended support until 2030. This partnership ensures a smooth transition for existing SAP IDM users by recommending Microsoft Entra ID, a cloud-based identity and access management solution, as the successor.

Benefits of Microsoft Entra ID:

  •  Access any application or resource from anywhere with consistent identity across platforms.
  •  Leverage cutting-edge features like AI, zero trust strategies, and decentralized identity for enhanced protection.
  • Tailor access policies to specific needs for optimal security and user experience.
  • Already well-integrated with SAP solutions for efficient system integration and access governance.
  • Supports HR-driven provisioning, SSO, MFA, and Conditional Access.

The collaboration enables cloud-based services that help organizations efficiently integrate systems with consistent identities and access governance while eliminating reliance on on-premises identity and access management components for identity management.

Modernizing identity infrastructure provides significant benefits: improved security, enhanced user experience, and optimized operational efficiency by reducing the complexity and costs of managing legacy systems.

Microsoft and SAP are committed to supporting customers through this transition. More details about migration guidance, resources, partners, and programs will be available in the coming months.
