At Building Windows 8 blog today Microsoft detailed the Live Tiles support in Windows 8. Similar to Windows Phones, Windows 8 will include support for push notifications in Metro Style apps. Microsoft had the following things in mind when developing this feature in Windows 8,

  • Allow hundreds of live tiles without degrading performance
  • Go beyond balloons, badges and text, with beautiful images
  • Make it easy for developers so they can just “fire and forget”
  • Achieve real-time delivery so delivering “instant messages” is instant.
