In an interview an with Heise at CEBIT a product manager for Microsoft confirmed once again that Microsoft is working on bringing CalDAV and CardDAV support to Windows Phone.

He confirmed the update will be coming in the first half of 2013, in time to prevent Windows Phone users from losing Gmail service due to  Google’s extended deadline for the end of ActiveSync support which will be the 31st July2013.

Already registered devices will still be able to use Google Mail without any problems, but there is no possibility to add new devices.

Windows Phone users are already expecting the so-called GDR2 update in the next few months, and it seems unlikely Microsoft will be able to fit another in before the deadline, suggesting that this is one of the under the hood features of the GDR2 update. So far leaked ROMs for the update have not shown little else of note.
