WebP is an image format introduced by Google in 2010 which combined lossy and lossless compression to deliver images up to 45% smaller than PNGs for similar quality, and of course, fully supported by Google Chrome and also Opera.

Till now Microsoft Edge did not directly support the format, but with yesterday’s 17692 Windows 10 Insider Build Microsoft introduced support for the image format via an extension which can be found in the Microsoft Store.

The extension, whose description simply reads “Webp Image Extensions,” will be installed automatically when needed but can be found in the Store here.
