Microsoft today started sending out invites for a Windows Mixed Reality event in October. The company will be holding the event on the 3rd of October in San Fransisco, which is just a day before Google’s big hardware event where the company will reveal new Pixel smartphones.

As for Microsoft, it isn’t clear what exactly the company is planning to announce at the invite. The press invite teases the “opportunity to hear where Microsoft is headed next,” according to The Verge. The timing of the event is particularly interesting as Microsoft and its partners will only start shipping the Windows Mixed Reality headsets on the 17th of October alongside the release of the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. Even though Microsoft is currently working on the next-generation of its HoloLens headset, it’s very unlikely we’ll get to see any new hardware from the company at the event.

It is important to note that Microsoft has another hardware event later in October where the company is expected to show off a new Surface device, possibly the new Surface Pro with LTE. Notably, the new Surface Books might not start shipping until early next year.
