Microsoft announces new SharePoint and OneDrive features including personalized search and more

At SharePoint Virtual Summit today, Microsoft shared some latest numbers related to SharePoint. Over 85 percent of Fortune 500 companies now have SharePoint as part of Office 365 and the usage of SharePoint has grown 90 percent while content stored has grown 300 percent. Microsoft today also announced the latest features for SharePoint and OneDrive. Read about them below.

  • The new simplified sharing experience allows users to share Office 365 files directly from File Explorer on PC and Finder on Mac. Read more about this feature here.
  • They are introducing a new product called SharePoint communication sites. They are a beautiful, dynamic site that lets you reach a broad audience to keep the organization informed and engaged. All the content published on a communication site will be displayed on SharePoint home in Office 365 and on SharePoint mobile to all users who have access to the site. It works across the web, on a PC or Mac, on mobile browsers and in the SharePoint app.
  • In the coming months, Microsoft PowerApps can be used to easily create custom forms that surface right in the context of a SharePoint list or library. Users can then create, view and interact with data using your custom form, rather than default SharePoint forms.
  • Microsoft is announcing a personalized search experience powered by machine learning and artificial intelligence from Microsoft Graph. The search results will now include people whose skills, interests and projects are relevant to your query. You can learn more about the person with a single click.
