maps-update

Microsoft is rolling out another set of updates from the Insider preview ringsto the general public’s production ring.

Microsoft is updating the Windows Maps app for the public branch of Windows 10, with new features in tow.

First of all, there’s a new dark theme packaged with the app for dark theme lovers and users with OLED screen. Microsoft offers the option to either use the system theme (either light or dark) or pick a light or dark theme independent of the system theme for users who like to live dangerously.

There’s also support for checking traffic enroute to either home or work with colour coding from green to amber indicating the severity of the road traffic. For locations where there are live cameras, Microsoft is also adding support for that too.

Here#’s the full changelog:

  • Enjoy dark or light app colors—they now change to match your system settings. If you prefer your apps to be dark rather than light you can now have the Maps app follow your system setting for theme preference or always be light/dark. Plus you can choose to change the map theme too!
  • Quickly check traffic for your commute, including live cameras, where available. We have always treated your Home and Work places special and now you can check the traffic to your Home or Work locations at any time. Just tap on Traffic in the app bar and you can see traffic conditions to Home and Work and your most recently viewed traffic cameras so that you can stay on top of the road conditions along your route.

Microsoft’s map app has never been better for Windows 10 Mobile users. While Here Maps used to be the defacto standard on the platform, the absence of Here and any other mapping competitors quickly forced Microsoft to develop its own maps app to match the likes of Apple and Google, so far, its doing a great job.
