Microsoft acquires HockeyApppp_microsoft

HockeyApp today revealed that the company has been acquired by Microsoft. HockeyApp, one of the popular beta app distribution and analytics service will be joining Microsoft soon. For those of you who don’t know, HokeyApp supports Windows Phone, Android, iOS and even OS X. Microsoft also revealed that the company will be integrating HockeyApp’s feature on its own Visual Studio Online Application Insights service. As part of the company’s CEO’s “mobile first, cloud first” approach, the company will also be releasing Application Insights SDKs for iOS and Android in the coming months. HockeyApp stated:

We’re happy to share some exciting news with you: Microsoft has acquired HockeyApp! This is a tremendous opportunity to continue to provide developers with the best app development tools and users with the best app experiences.

HockeyApp is a great platform which provides tons of analytics for app developers, including:

  • Crash reporting.  Fast and precise crash reporting with easy app integration, rich crash analysis and support for connecting directly to existing workflows and bug tracking systems.
  • Distribution and feedback.  Beta distribution and built-in user feedback system.
  • Cross-platform.  Support for iOS, Android, and Windows Phone provides a consistent developer experience across mobile devices.
