Mechwarrior 5 Steam

The upcoming first-person mech simulator Mechwarrior 5 is now an Epic Store exclusive.

Announced via a new development blog post, developer Piranha Games revealed the title’s acquisition by Epic Games.

“Our partnership with Epic Games store allows us the opportunity to make sure MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries meets our internal goal of creating the best MechWarrior game possible,” Piranha wrote.

Fans who have already pre-ordered the title will be able to get a refund if playing through the Epic Store is too blasphemous. Pre-order bonuses, which included microtransaction content for Mechwarrior Online, will still be honoured.

Refunds will be honoured up to September 1st. Of course, those who refund will lose access to the base game upon release. The game’s upcoming closed beta will also be unavailable.

Piranha Games’ announcement has already kicked off with fan negativity; following the news, many a “WTF” and “ANGRY” post has been made on Reddit, YouTube and Twitter. With such a hardcore crowd tied to the Mechwarrior franchise – many of which invested in the series on Steam – it’s unsurprising albeit childish.

Mechwarrior 5 is still set to launch on Xbox One.
