June 2, 2025 – Google Workspace just got tighter with Jira. Atlassian has rolled out Gmail integration for Jira as part of its existing Jira and Confluence app. Starting today, users can create, update, and track Jira issues directly from their Gmail inbox.
This new feature builds on Atlassian’s earlier move in 2023, when it introduced smart chips for Jira and Confluence inside Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides. Now, teams don’t have to switch tabs to check issue status or log work – everything happens right where the emails land.

To activate the integration, Workspace admins need to install or allowlist the add-on for their users. If admins have done that, individuals can grab it directly from the Atlassian Marketplace.
The update is live now for both Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains. It’s available to all Google Workspace customers, Workspace Individual subscribers, and even personal Gmail users.
Atlassian says the goal is to simplify team workflows by cutting the friction between communication and task tracking. With this update, Gmail becomes more than an inbox, it becomes a launchpad for work.
