Google I/O 2025 brought a wave of updates to Android design. The Android Show’s I/O Edition unveiled Material 3 Expressive, a bolder visual style that prioritizes emotional design and stronger engagement. Designers can try it now via Material.io.

Google also introduced updated Live Update Notification templates. These offer real-time interaction models, available now in the Android UI Kit and backed by a Jetsnack case study.

Text input took center stage in the Compose session. It covered smarter Autofill, dynamic text resizing, and new input transformations for Jetpack Compose apps.

Designers building across screens saw fresh support too. Google previewed Gemini in-car for Android Auto and launched a new Car UI Design Kit. Android TV OS also got updates to app discovery and layout.

Wear OS 6 now has a refreshed design kit and Figma learning pathway. Android XR development also got a spotlight with new guidance for 3D model support.The Android Design team rolled out new resources covering widget configuration, settings, help and feedback, and edge-to-edge UI layout.
