Rest in Peace, Sweet Prince. Gearbox’s underrated hero shooter Battleborn will become completely unplayable in 2021.

With the title approaching its End of Life, the developer has officially begun “sunsetting” the game. Servers will go offline in January 2021: with Battleborn’s entire being tied to online connectivity, the title will be officially dead.

As of January 2021, Battleborn will be dead and buried.

For those who still wish to experience the colorful worlds of the cartoon hero shooter, you still have time. You can continue to play, level up and earn in-game currency for the next year-and-a-bit. However, players will be unable to buy in-game currency after February 24, 2020.

“We’re extremely proud of the work that went into the game, and want to extend our deep appreciation to all the fans for their support,” Gearbox said on the game’s official Twitter. “We’ll continue to provide updates on the sunsetting of the title when appropriate.”

“Once the servers are offline in January 2021, Battleborn won’t be playable in any way,” the game’s FAQ reads. Despite having a full single-player campaign, the game is going to be completely dead.

While the title wasn’t sure particularly well received upon launch, it was still an enjoyable and unique title. Killed by the might of Blizzard’s Overwatch, the game was turned into a free-to-play title; it didn’t help poor revenue.
