Its nice to see a company support Windows Phone with what is a rather niche accessory, which is exactly what Garmin did with their HUD+ heads-up display for their Navigon GPS Navigation app.

The Bluetooth accessory already works with the Navigon GPS Navigation app, but if you do not have that, you can still buy the HUD+ and use it with the free Garmin HUD app.

That free app features:

  • Voice-guided turn-by-turn directions
  • Millions of preloaded points of interest including gas stations, restaurants and other businesses
  • Maps install to your device, so wireless coverage isn’t required
  • Includes free map updates (one map update per year)
  • Active lane assistant
  • Reality View Pro
  • MyRoutes calculates up to three routes in parallel
  • Integrated red light and speed camera database
  • Knows your current speed and posted speed limit (for most major roads)
  • Current and forecasted weather conditions at destination

An in app purchase will upgrade the 1.1 GB app to include:

  • Traffic Live – Live traffic updates and alerts
  • Sound & 3D – Voice guidance with spoken street names and Panorama View 3D

The free app features maps for the United States, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands.

To use the app you need the Garmin HUD+ device, which is $119.99, and can be found at Amazon here.
