Castlevania Puzzle: Encore of the Night! is another puzzle RPG game, similar to Puzzle Quest, where you make combinations of falling colored squares to defeat your enemies.

Overall Score: 4/5Castlevania

Thanks to the game’s really long lasting value (about 10 hours, but it could last up to 20 hours), amazing musical score, and pretty good gameplay, Castlevania Puzzle is quite fun. The visuals, however, aren’t as great.

Gameplay: 4/5

This is really just a puzzle game, but with a RPG twist added in.  You play this puzzle game against the computer to defeat your enemy.  The controls are simple, you just swipe left or right with your finger to move the piece and tap the screen to rotate the piece, attempting to create combinations of three or more colored squares.  You can damage your enemy by creating combinations, using spells, or by causing his puzzle board to fill up and overflow.  He can also hurt you in the same way, so that keeps the game really interesting.  You also have to upgrade your skill levels and upgrade your armor in order to be able to defeat tougher enemies.  Throughout the game you’ll run into a variety of enemies and even bosses that will challenge you in different ways.  So overall gameplay is pretty fun, but it doesn’t hold up to Puzzle Quest’s gameplay, since Puzzle Quest has more variety than Castlevania does and since Puzzle Quest’s attack system seems more challenging to master. However, Castlevania does add some different elements that are fun in its own way.

Presentation: 4/5

The music in this game is absolutely fabulous.  The variation of music carries you really well through the game, and is even good enough to listen to just on its own.  However, the visuals are kind of basic.

Lasting Value: 5/5

The game will probably last about 10 hours, but if you play through it as thorough as possible, you could probably get 20 hours of gameplay out of it.  Also you could start a new game with a new character, and then each of his statistics will be unique compared to your last game.  Plus the game even has an arcade mode where you can quickly play a game.  This lasting value is what justifies the high price of the game.
