Recently Waypoint posted an in-depth history of the Halo franchise which discussed the challenges they faced during development. One of the strangest pieces of information to come out of the chronicle was how Microsoft had severe issues with the “Halo” name and wanted it to be more combat or Master Chief-focused. The company went back and forth with Bungie for months.

Well, how was this resolved? Remember the “Combat Evolved” subtitle? Well, in order to make sure that gamers knew that “Halo” was about basically fighting each other, “Combat Evolved” was added. When “Halo” became an established game, they no longer needed the subtitles so Halo 2 was an easy decision.

The entire account by current and former Microsoft employees is fascinating and worth a read if you’re into the game. For example, did you know that multiplayer was almost cut because it was quite broken until right before release? Here’s hoping we get a sneak peek at Halo 6 at E3 2017 even though 343 Industries said they won’t have a major presence there. All we want is a teaser! That’s not too much to ask, right?
