It’s a quiet Sunday evening, which means it’s the perfect time for something a bit silly, which sounds like exactly the opening the  HiGUCHI (absurd) journal needs.

The aforementioned Higuchi is a Japanese web developer and also Surface Pro owner who likes to bring some levity into people’s lives with his videos, and in his latest creation he shows the various creative ways we could do away with the need for expensive branded Surface accessories, when some bookends and a bit of elastic could do just as well.

His desk stand, which he notes makes his Surface Pro work a bit like a Surface Studio, only cost 100 Yen (around $1) to build, but given that your Surface Pro probably cost around 1000 times as much we would not vouch for the safety of his construction.

See his video below.

While the video is just a bit of fun, it is interesting to see the Surface Pro used as a cultural object in such a way, something you will not see with a random Lenovo or Samsung, which does say something about Microsoft’s efforts to redefine the Windows PC brand.

You can see the rest of Higuchi’s absurd videos (some of which feature his Surface Pro) here.
