Digitimes claims Nokia is in discussion with suppliers for a possible large screened handset for 2014.

They note that following the release of various-sized 6-inch and larger handsets from Asia-based vendors such as Huawei and Samsung , Nokia is reportedly in discussion about making larger-size handsets that may be released in the next year.

Phablets give phone OEMs an opportunity to compete with 7 inch tablet producers like Acer while still remaining in their comfort zone.

Such a tablet will presumably require a higher resolution screen such as 1080P, a feature which is believed to be coming to Windows Phone towards the end of the year as part of the GDR 3 update. There have however also been rumours of a so-called Nokia Max 625, which was a low-end Windows Phone 8 handset with a 4.7 inch WVGA screen for emerging markets, who more often use their phone as their only computer, and appreciate the increased screen size more.

Nokia’s phablet has been rumoured previously by sources as reputable as the Financial Times, so it seems pretty likely Windows Phone will go beyond 5 inches sooner rather than later. Will our readers be ready to slip one into their cargo pants? Let us know below.
