Microsoft has now started opening access to the Windows Phone 8 SDK to selected developers.

To apply, Marketplace developers should visit the Microsoft Connect site and complete an application. You will need your Developer ID and Application’s Product ID, as well as the name of your local Phone Champ  ( via Find My Champ app).

The program is intended for the most downloaded Marketplace apps, and is open until the 17th September.

Microsoft also revealed why they have not announced the full SDK yet. The reason is rather unexpected – Microsoft simply did not want to let the Windows Phone 8 feature list out of the bag.  Given that the emulator has already leaked this reasoning seems a bit weak, and it may be good idea for Microsoft to accept that reality. They promise there will be  more SDK news in the coming weeks.
