Death Stranding 2: On the Beach offers a more dynamic and expansive experience compared to its predecessor. Set 11 months after the original, players follow Sam Bridges from Mexico to Australia, undertaking a mission to reconnect fractured societies. The game introduces a faster-paced narrative, granting early access to new equipment and structures, enhancing player engagement from the outset.
The PS5’s capabilities are fully utilized, delivering stunning visuals that capture diverse landscapes, from rugged deserts to lush wildlife sanctuaries inhabited by kangaroos and koalas. An optional aerial camera provides a broader perspective of the terrain, enriching the exploration experience. The soundtrack complements the visuals, adding emotional depth to key moments.

Gameplay mechanics have evolved, offering increased freedom and strategic options. Players can now access a variety of equipment early in the game, allowing for diverse approaches to challenges. Environmental hazards like earthquakes and wildfires require adaptive strategies, such as using a new ‘tar cannon’ to extinguish fires. A day/night cycle adds another layer of strategy, affecting visibility and enemy detection.
Character progression is more nuanced in Death Stranding 2 , with 12 new proficiency levels that evolve based on player actions. For instance, frequent traversal of rough terrain enhances Sam’s ability to handle such conditions, while engaging in melee combat improves his fighting skills.
Sony will also be rolling out a Death Stranding 2-themed DualShock controller on the same release day. You can find more about it here.
