Windows 10 UWP developers do not have access to Google’s location APIs, and generally use Microsoft’s replacement.

Yesterday users were complaining that their UWP apps with Bing Maps APIs were crashing, and today Microsoft finally admitted that the issue was related to the data the API delivered.

On MSDN a Microsoft employee said:

One of the maps services was returning bad data. This has been mitigated and the control should be working normally now.

While the issue appears to have been a simple bug, related to a backend change Microsoft made and reverted, there is some concern by developers that Microsoft is not fully committed to maintaining the controls given the dwindling user base.
