We reported earlier on problems with Outlook.com which resulted in some hours of down time in USA and elsewhere.

Now another Microsoft service also appears to be having problems.

Readers have complained of being unable to log in to Skype using their old credentials.

The Skype Heartbeat page confirms this, noting:

We are currently experiencing issues where users might not be able to connect to Skype. We are investigating this issue and hope to resolve soon.  We apologize for the inconvenience.

Microsoft’s official advice is for users to “Please use Skype for Web as a possible workaround.” though we have heard users with the new Windows Live ID are unaffected by these issues.

The Outlook issue was caused by degraded capacity in Microsoft’s backend, and we wonder if this is a spreading issue around Microsoft’s servers.

Update: The Skype status page notes the problems are now over, saying:

[Update Oct 7, 2016 03:00 GMT]: Issue is fully resolved
