We have been receiving a number of reports that Outlook.com is having issues, with the site not loading for some.

The issue is not just affecting the front-end, but also email clients like the Gmail app for Android.

Microsoft’s own status page appears to suggest everything is fine:

3rd party sites suggests however the issue is widespread though mainly affecting the US.  Microsoft’s official Outlook twitter account is currently fielding several questions around the issue, but it may be resolving as for me outlook.com is loading at the minute.

Update: Microsoft appears to be working on the issue, with their status message being updated to say:

More info: Affected users may receive an error stating: “Something went wrong.” If site access is successful, the web client may not render successfully.

Update 2: Microsoft appears to have identified the issue as degraded capacity to the mailbox databases and are working to reroute around the issue. The latest status update says:

Title: Can’t connect to Outlook.com
User Impact: Users may be unable to connect to the Outlook.com service.
More info: Affected users may receive an error stating: “Something went wrong.” If site access is successful, the web client may not render successfully.
Current status: Our investigation determined that a portion of the capacity responsible for routing connection requests to the mailbox databases became degraded. We’re shifting traffic to a healthy portion of the infrastructure to remediate impact.
