Apple Pencil 3rd gen $69

Apple Pencil is the gold standard for precision and low latency. However, Apple Pencil didn’t reach mainstream customers due to its high price. The Apple Pencil 2nd Gen costs $129, making it unreachable for most customers. Today, Apple announced a new Apple Pencil that is more affordable and features key capabilities that are expected from an Apple Pencil.

The new Apple Pencil will cost just $79 ($69 for Education customers) and it will feature the same pixel-perfect accuracy, low latency, and tilt sensitivity of the Apple Pencil 2nd Gen. Compared to its costlier sibling, the new Apple Pencil will lack pressure sensitivity, wireless pairing & charging, and double tap to change feature. The new Apple Pencil even supports hover when paired with the new iPad Pros, allowing users to sketch with even greater precision.

A sliding cap on the backend of the new Apple Pencil reveals a USB-C port which can be used for pairing and charging. When magnetically attached to iPad for storage, the new Apple Pencil enters a sleep state to preserve battery life.

The new Apple Pencil will be available this November and it will be compatible with following models:

  • The new Apple Pencil is compatible with all iPad models with a USB-C port, including iPad (10th generation), iPad Air (4th and 5th generations), iPad Pro 11-inch (1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th generations), iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th generations), and iPad mini (6th generation).
