Microsoft has been betting big on AI by slapping Copilot, its AI assistant tool, into basically almost everything on Windows, including MS365 apps like Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and even more. Even though the latest Recall feature has been getting an outpouring of criticism lately, it’s only a start.

And now, it seems like Apple is following the Redmond company’s footsteps in bringing more AI features to its OS that powers iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks.

Apple-centric publication Apple Insider has exclusively revealed how the next iOS 18 will shape, including what’s the now-AI-powered Siri capable of with these new capabilities. These new features are coming across apps like Mail, Camera, Photos, Reminds, Safari, Keynote, Books, and more.

Just like how Copilot and Microsoft Edge can transcribe and translate audio files, the Notes app on iOS and macOS will soon boast this capability. The new LLM-powered Siri can create, rename, and delete Note folders; manage tags in Notes; open specific accounts; move, delete, or pin notes; and even open an Outlook account within Notes.

Apple, known for its superior camera quality, will also have brand-new Siri features for the Camera app. You will soon be able to command Siri to flip the cameras, open it to a specific mode, set a timer, and even toggle video recording. And, just like what Copilot does on Outlook, Siri will also let you summarize email threads and enable AI “Smart Replies” (available in Mail, Siri, and Message), among other capabilities.

Apple is dropping iOS 18 at the WWDC 2024 event on June 10, which is a bit odd considering the WWDC history to take place in September. The OS is coming to iPhone XR and above models.
