image New entrant to the smartphone world Acer, who’s smartphone business group was established in 2008, is planning to go big in 2010, with the aim of shipping 2 to 2.5 million smartphones that year said Aymar de Lencquesaing, president of Acer’s smart handheld business group, Dow Jones Newswires reported.

That is just the start of their ambition, with Lencquesaing saying Acer is planning to win a spot in the world’s top five smartphone brands, with plans to ship as many as 20 million smartphones in 2014. The company plans to introduce its smartphone into mainland China as part of its expansion strategy.

Previous reports said that Acer this year will roll out ten handset models, of which nine will be powered by the Windows Mobile operating system and one will be powered by Google Android operating platform.

Acer is the world’s third-largest computer manufacturer.
