Last week we polled our readers on a wide variety of subjects, and we received a massive response, with nearly 800 respondents.

The results were pretty interesting, and for example revealed than nearly 50% of our readers read the website nearly exclusively from their phones. From the numerous freetext suggestions we received most of our readers were happy with the design of the mobile website, but wanted it to load faster and use less data, especially when limited to 3G and even 2G.  We will be paying more attention to this aspect in the future.

The survey also revealed a massive 30% of our readers received new article notifications via their Facebook feed, vs only 10% via twitter. Given that we have nearly 60,000 twitter followers this suggests we need to focus a bit more on our Facebook page, which only which only has 6000 (Like us here to increase that number Winking smile)

28% of readers preferred the older blog-style layout vs 54% for the new newspaper-style lay-out. We’ll continue to investigate this issue.

Interestingly only 11% of users did not like having Windows Phone news mixed with Microsoft and Internet of Things news.  That is of course encouraging, as we move to an increasingly connected world. Some readers did however want the Windows Phone news to be more prominent.

Of course quite a few readers wanted an app, and we can confirm one is under development as we speak.

Only 12% of readers did not like us reporting on rumours, but from the suggestions we received our readers would like some confidence meter.  This is definitely under consideration.

We received more than 400 free text suggestions, and personally want to thank all the readers who used this to send us messages of encouragement and appreciation. I personally read all 441 messages, and we will be looking at how many of these suggestions we can implement, such as for example a Windows Phone News only RSS feed, and more prominent placement of the search button.

The winner of the $30 Microsoft Store voucher has an email address ending in maltegoetz.com. The voucher will follow shortly.

Thanks to everyone else who participated, and please be assured that we are taking your feedback very seriously.
