Microsoft is acquiring Deis, an open source company that builds tools to make Kubernetes easier to use

Microsoft today announced that they are acquiring Deis, a company that has been building open source tools that make it easy for teams to create and manage applications on Kubernetes. In addition to these tools, the Deis team brings a depth of open source technology experience to Microsoft. Deis team are strong supporters of the open source community and Microsoft today announced that Deis will continue its contributions to Workflow, Helm, and Steward.

“We expect Deis’ technology to make it even easier for customers to work with our existing container portfolio including Linux and Windows Server Containers, Hyper-V Containers and Azure Container Service, no matter what tools they choose to use,” said Scott Guthrie – Executive Vice President, Cloud and Enterprise Group, Microsoft.

Containers let organizations more easily build, deploy and move applications to and from the cloud. Microsoft is already seeing explosive growth in both interest and deployment of containerized workloads on Azure. And with Deis acquistion, Microsoft is reaffirming its committment to ensure that Azure is the best place to run them.
