Apple Arcade

The downfall of iPhone sales signaled the need for Apple to go beyond just iPhone and try its luck in other markets to make profits. The company did just that by launching a slew of services including a gaming service Arcade.

Now Apple wants every major title to appear on their gaming platform, just like how Microsoft wanted every app developers to make apps for Windows Phone as the company was a late entrant to the mobile business. Apple is now facing a similar issue with Arcade and the company wants to make sure Arcade doesn’t meet the same fate as Windows Phone. According to the Financial Times report, Apple is spending “hundreds of millions” of dollars to make sure that iPhone users don’t have to look anywhere else for their gaming needs.

For those unaware, Apple’s Arcade is a gaming subscription service without “Cloud-based” prefixed to it. You will find a dedicated tab inside Apple’s App Store, a monthly will let you access all the titles available in Apple’s gaming service. You’ll also be able to share it with your family, no extra charges required.

The iPhone maker is spending over $500 million to secure a sit for popular titles in its new gaming platform. For each game, Apple is spending several million. Add to that, there will be other perks for developers if they launch games exclusive to Apple’s ecosystem.

Apple, however, refused to comment.

Tim Cook and team undoubtedly has come with the right approach. Now, it’d be interesting to see how Apple convinces game developers to bring contents to the platform. Arcade is all set to launch in this year’s fall.
