On 23rd April 2025, YouTube finally turned 20, marking two decades since the platform’s first video upload. To commemorate this milestone, the company announced a set of new features aimed at enhancing user experience across music, mobile, and TV viewing.
The first major feature, Ask Music, allows YouTube Premium and YouTube Music users to create personalized radio stations. Available on iOS and Android in select English-speaking countries, this feature lets users fine-tune their music experience using natural language prompts, with broader availability planned soon.

For mobile users, YouTube Premium now supports 4x playback speed, a step up from the previous 2x limit. This update is designed for viewers looking to quickly browse or revisit content at their own pace.
The update is intended to allow viewers to quickly scan, or return to things at their leisure. Lastly, a significant TV interface overhaul is expected this summer. YouTube also offers faster searching and more user-friendly playback controls; easier access to comments, channels, and subscriptions; and an overall better experience for watching videos on a big screen.
The updates are some examples of how YouTube is transitioning to better serve the world’s users with a more personalized, user-friendly, and effective way of getting content.
