Key notes

  • Meta has just dropped the v62 update for its Quest headsets.
  • Now, it supports spatial video playback feature, among other features.
  • The Facebook stream support is also now rolling out for all users.

Not too long after reviews for Apple’s new Vision Pro devices arrived, its competitor, Meta Quest, is launching new updates. Dubbed v62, the software update brings a lot of exciting features, like the iPhone-friendly spatial video playback.

Meta says in the announcement that iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max owners can now capture 3D videos with their phones and enjoy them on Meta Quest headsets. Just upload the videos using the Meta Quest app, and the headset will automatically convert them for VR playback. You’ll then find them stored in the Files menu.

The v62 update also brings native support for external gamepads for Meta Quest Browser, so if you have PS4/PS5 or Xbox controllers, you can connect them via Bluetooth or even USB-C.

The Facebook stream support, which was initially launched back in July last year, is also now rolling out for all users.

The latest Meta Quest headset, Meta Quest 3, arrived last year, and its $499 price tag does not seem so bad compared to Vision Pro’s $3,499. In fact, while Meta Quest lets you enjoy VR versions of Netflix and YouTube, Vision Pro falls short on these essential entertainment apps.
