Spotify has just announced the Miniplayer feature for desktops. The popular streaming platform, which has recently recorded its highest payout for indie artists, says that this feature is coming to paid users for now.
But what is it, exactly? The Spotify Miniplayer, exclusive for desktops for now, lets you change songs, adjust volume, and more without having to open the Spotify app back and forth. It also has support for podcast content.
You can use it by tapping the Miniplayer icon at the bottom right corner of your Spotify screen, just between the volume and the full-screen buttons. Once clicked, you’ll find Miniplayer floats over other apps so it’s convenient if you’re working on something.
You also get picture-in-picture mode and adjustable sizing options from either a square, a rectangle, or a sleek bar.
Spotify has been undergoing some drastic changes in features in recent months. The popular streaming app even launched music videos for premium users—which is quite different than Spotify Canvas—and you can toggle on “Switch to Music Videos” on some select popular songs.
This feature is still rolling out for beta, so expect not to be able to test it just now.
