Key notes
- Opera One added Discord, Slack, and Bluesky to its sidebar based on user feedback.
- To use them, update Opera One and select the apps under the “Messengers” category.
- Opera also introduced two new themes and has been releasing a lot of important updates recently.
Opera has integrated Discord, Slack, and Bluesky into the sidebar of its flagship browser, Opera One. This update makes it easier for users to access these platforms without opening extra tabs or apps.
The decision came after user feedback. “We’re constantly looking at the feedback our users provide underneath our blog posts, on Opera forums, and through social media,” said Joanna Czajka, Product Director at Opera. Opera tested the integrations in its Developer version before rolling them out to everyone.
Discord, known for gaming communities, is popular among developers, educators, and content creators. Slack is widely used for workplace communication, and Bluesky is a decentralized social network that is gaining traction as more people are switching away from Elon Musk-owned X (formerly Twitter).
To enable these apps, you need to update Opera One, click the three-dot menu in the sidebar, and select their preferred platforms under the “Messengers” category.
Other than these, Opera also introduced two new themes: Metamorphic, a collaboration with CG artist Alex Maltsev, and Interstellar, inspired by space and fantasy artist Tobias Roetsch.
The popular browser has been the internet’s favorite, mostly because it’s one of the only browsers that can still run Manifest v2 extensions (like uBlock Origin) as Google Chrome is waging wars against it.
Last year, Opera One received an R2 update with a lot of new AI smarts, added support for local large language models (LLMs) on laptops and PCs with Snapdragon X Elite chips, and launched a native version of the browser for Windows on ARM devices.
