If there is any doubt that Windows Phone 7 is still a work in progress, the recent news that the Compass API is not available to developers and will not be available at launch should lay that doubt to rest.

Brandon Watson, Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7  product management for the developer platform revealed this in a recent Channel 9 video (above).

Also of note was that Microsoft had no plans for gyroscope support yet, and will eventually deliver pivot and panorama controls blessed by Microsoft, which they expect developers to move to eventually to maintain a consistent experience.
