Last week, Microsoft confirmed that Windows Media Center will not be part of Windows 10. Gabe Aul provided some info on why it was not included. The main reason he cited was decreased usage. However he said that Microsoft is aware of the fact that many people used Windows Media Center to play DVD and Microsoft will provide an update in Windows 10 that will allow you to play DVDs. Another main usage of Windows Media Center is around Live TV recording. According to Paul Thurrott, Microsoft’s Xbox One will feature Live TV recording later this year.

Of course, many Media Center fans actually use the product to record and watch TV shows via Media Center PCs in the living room. Microsoft’s solution for this need will apparently be the Xbox One, though the console currently only provides live TV watching, but not recording. My sources tell me that will change, and most probably this year, to include TV recording.

I think this is a great news for Windows Media Center users. What do you think?
