Key notes
- Windows 11 Insider Preview build 26227 offers easier access to mouse settings.
- Two new settings in Settings app: Enhance Pointer Precision & Scroll Direction.
- Features currently require ViVeTool for activation within the Insider build.
Microsoft has introduced two new mouse settings in the latest Windows 11 Insider Preview build (version 26227) for the Canary channel. These settings are now integrated into the Settings app, earlier it was found in Control Panel.
These settings are:
- Enhance pointer precision: This lets users control cursor acceleration, which can affect cursor movement on the screen. Disabling this setting can provide more precise cursor control, apt for users in fast-paced environments like games.
- Scroll direction: This setting allows users to configure the scrolling direction of their mouse wheel. Users can choose between the default behavior (downward scroll corresponds to page down) or an inverted behavior (downward scroll corresponds to page up).
It is important to note that these features are currently only available in the Windows 11 Insider Preview build 26227 for the Canary channel. They are not yet available in the public release of Windows 11.
Additionally, within the Insider build, these features require activation using a third-party tool called ViVeTool.
Here are the steps, as posted by Neowin:
- Download ViveTool from GitHub and unpack the files in a convenient and easy-to-find folder.
- Launch Command Prompt as Administrator.
- Navigate to the folder containing the ViveTool files with the CD command. For example, if you have placed ViveTool in C:\Vive, type CD C:\Vive.
- Type vivetool /enable /id:50012660 and press Enter.
- Restart your computer.
- Now, you can go to Settings > Bluetooth & Devices > Mouse and try the new options.
The inclusion of these settings in the Insider build means they may be introduced in a future public release of Windows 11.
